Jharkhand: Maoists set ablaze six vehicles, two machines in Latehar

Latehar: Maoists torched eight vehicles of a mineral survey company late Saturday night in the Chandwa police station area of Latehar district in Jharkhand, police said.

According to police sources, the armed Maoists arrived at the site where CMPDI, a mineral survey company, was conducting a coal survey in the Torisot village under Chakla panchayat.

The Maoists opened fire and set ablaze two drilling machines, two cars, two pickups, and two trucks.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod Ravani, under the supervision of Latehar Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav, reached the site and initiated an investigation.

The police have sealed off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the Maoists involved in the attack.

Naxals Killed In Encounter

Last month about 8 Naxals killed in an encounter between Naxalites and a joint team of police and paramilitary forces in Bokaro. The encounter occurred the foothills of Lugu hill in the city.

Jharkhand's Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta said, "In the Bokaro encounter, Vivek, a Maoist with a reward of Rs 1 crore, was also killed during the encounter. A total of 8 bodies of Naxals have been recovered so far."

DGP further said that a total of 8 dead bodies of Maoists have been recovered so far by the troops. One AK series rifle, one SLR, three INSAS rifles, one Pistol and eight country-made Bharmar rifles and other weapons have also been recovered in the search operation.

Gupta said that the Naxalites who have fled during the encounter are being surrounded. CRPF officials said that the firing has stopped, but operations are underway, while there has been no injury reported to the forces.

According to CRPF a cache of arms including one AK series rifle, one SLR, three INSAS rifles, one pistol and eight country-made Bharmar rifles were recovered.

Another Encounter

In another encounter in last March, at least 16 naxals were neutralised and two security personnel were injured on Saturday in an ongoing encounter between security forces and naxalites in the Sukma district in last March.

According to Bastar Inspector General (IG) of Police, the operation was initiated based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of Naxals in the Kerlapal area under Sukma police station limits.
