June begins on Monday
New Delhi: Monday holds special significance in Hindu culture as the day dedicated to Lord Shiva, the deity of destruction and transformation. With June 2026 starting on a Monday, devotees consider this month an especially auspicious time to perform spiritual activities and seek the blessings of Mahadev.
Observing Somvar (Monday) rituals is believed to bring positivity, protection, and fulfillment of devotees’ wishes.
1. Perform Jalabhishek on the Shivling
Offering water to the Shivling, known as Jalabhishek, is one of the most widely practiced rituals. Devotees may also use milk, honey, curd, or Gangajal while chanting Shiva mantras. This ritual symbolizes purity, devotion, and respect for Lord Shiva.
2. Chant the Om Namah Shivaya Mantra
The Panchakshari mantra, Om Namah Shivaya, is a cornerstone of Shiva worship. Devotees often chant it 108 times on Mondays to enhance concentration, inner calm, and spiritual devotion.
3. Offer Bel Patra and White Flowers
Bel Patra, considered Lord Shiva’s favorite, is an essential offering in any worship. White flowers are also commonly presented as a symbol of purity and reverence during Monday rituals.
4. Observe a Simple Somvar Vrat
Many devotees choose to observe a Somvar vrat, which may involve fasting or following a satvik (pure vegetarian) diet. This ancient practice is believed to bring spiritual growth and divine blessings from Lord Shiva.
The Significance of Monday in Shiva Worship
According to Hindu tradition, Monday is the most auspicious day to worship Lord Shiva. Devotees flock to temples, perform Rudrabhishek, and chant mantras to invite spiritual enlightenment and protection. While rituals and offerings hold importance, sincere devotion remains the core of Shiva worship.
