Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business license of Mumbai's iconic Rustom ice cream parlour after an inspection uncovered multiple food safety and hygiene violations at its Churchgate outlet.

What Did the Inspection Find?

According to the FDA, officials found several serious lapses during an inspection of the outlet located at Brabourne Stadium House on Veer Nariman Road.

The violations included:

  • Breakdown of cold chain operations
  • Failure to maintain mandatory food safety records
  • Storage of expired food products

The FDA said these deficiencies violated sanitation requirements under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards regulations.

License Suspended Under Food Safety Law

Citing the seriousness of the violations, the FDA ordered the immediate suspension of the outlet's food license under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Other Food Businesses Also Face Action

The FDA also suspended the food business license of Hotel Patilwada in Dhule for operating without a valid license.

In a separate action, the license of Hira Sweets Pvt. Ltd. in Nagpur was suspended after inspectors allegedly found a dead rat on the premises while food production was underway nearby, constituting a violation of food safety regulations.
