Pune: As many as four teenage boys died after drowning while swimming in Pazhar Lake near Chakan in Pune district, officials confirmed on Sunday.All four bodies were recovered from the water on Saturday evening.
The boys were reportedly unable to gauge the depth of the lake while swimming on Saturday. When they failed to return home, their families alerted the authorities.
The victims have been identified as Omkar Babasaheb Hange (13), Shlok Jagdish Mankar (11), Prasad Shankar Deshmukh (11), and Naitik Gopal More (12), all residents of Medankarwadi.
They belonged to families of migrant workers who had relocated to Chakan for employment.
According to police, a search operation was launched after the boys’ clothes and footwear were discovered on the lake’s bank. Local residents, Chakan police, and trekking groups joined the rescue efforts, and by evening, all four bodies were fished out.
On last Friday evening, in Rishikesh three girls were swept away by the strong current in which two girls died due to drowning. While one girl was saved.
The incident took place near the SDPL crematorium in Rishikesh. The girls are said to be of Nepali origin, who had gone to take bath on the banks of the Ganga.
According to the information, while bathing in the Ganga river in Rishikesh, three girls of Nepali origin were swept away due to the strong current. The local people showed promptness and saved one of them, but unfortunately two girls could not be saved. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to search for the two girls, whose bodies were eventually recovered.
Eyewitnesses said that the three girls, while playing on the banks of the Ganga, slowly moved towards the deep water and suddenly got swept away in the strong current. When the local people present there saw them drowning, they raised an alarm and tried to save them. During this, the people present there took one girl out safely. But, two other girls drowned in the water.
As soon as the incident was reported, the local police and SDRF team reached the spot and started the rescue operation. After about an hour of effort, the team recovered the bodies of both the girls from the Ganges. The age of the dead girls is being told to be between 10 to 12 years.
