New Delhi: Early trends from Maharashtra’s Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council elections indicate a decisive victory for the BJP and its alliance, the Mahayuti. The NDA-led coalition is currently leading in 218 seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) trails at 47 seats.

Maharashtra Local Body Election Trends

  • BJP: 127
  • Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction): 54
  • NCP: 37
  • Mahayuti Total: 218
  • Shiv Sena (UBT): 9
  • NCP (SP): 7
  • Congress: 31
  • MVA Total: 47
  • Others: 23

The results mark a continuation of the Mahayuti’s strong performance following its dominant showing in the 2024 state assembly elections. These local body outcomes are also being closely watched ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled next month.

MVA Unable to Mount Strong Challenge

The opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi, struggled to make an impact. Despite efforts by the Congress in regions like Vidarbha and Marathwada, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) leaders largely remained absent from grassroots campaigning.

Meanwhile, the Mahayuti’s campaign was marked by strong coordination, particularly between the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. This cohesive strategy allowed the alliance to overcome internal tensions and secure a decisive lead, despite ongoing state-level challenges such as the agricultural crisis, delayed welfare payments, and financial issues affecting farmers.
