Rajya Sabha MP Sunetra Pawar is expected to be elected as the legislative party leader, paving the way for her swearing-in as Deputy Chief Minister.
The NCP MLAs' meeting will be held at 2 pm today in the Vidhan Bhavan premises. Senior party leader Sunil Tatkare has submitted an official letter to the Legislative Assembly regarding this meeting. All NCP MLAs from the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will attend the meeting, and Sunetra Pawar is expected to be unanimously elected as the legislative party leader.

According to sources, after being elected as the legislative party leader, Sunetra Pawar is expected to be sworn in as Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister around 5 pm today. She has arrived in Mumbai from Baramati ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. Her sons, Jai Pawar and Naresh Arora, have also accompanied her.
NCP Working President Praful Patel has clarified that there is no opposition within the party to Sunetra Pawar's appointment. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also stated that the government will respect the NCP's internal decision. He said, "This decision is NCP's, and we, as the government and the BJP, stand firmly with them."
Following Ajit Pawar's death, the party leadership wants Sunetra Pawar to assume the position of Deputy Chief Minister. There is an atmosphere of mourning in Baramati and among the supporters of the entire Pawar family, and amidst this, the party has decided to promote Sunetra Pawar. Sunetra Pawar is the daughter-in-law of the Pawar family and has long been active in social work. She contested the 2024 Baramati Lok Sabha election against Supriya Sule, but lost. The NCP then elected her to the Rajya Sabha, from where she entered national politics.
