An attempt was made to attack former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah during a wedding event in Jammu. Jammu: An attempt was made to assassinate former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in Jammu late Wednesday evening. The incident occurred while he was attending a wedding ceremony in the Greater Kailash area of the city. Several Jammu and Kashmir government leaders and local residents were present at the event. Security personnel's vigilance averted a major tragedy, and the accused was apprehended on the spot.
According to reports, Farooq Abdullah was returning from the ceremony when a man suddenly approached him. The accused pointed a gun at his head from behind and attempted to shoot him. However, security personnel immediately responded, apprehending the attacker and snatching the pistol from his hand.
Following the incident, some people present at the scene apprehended the accused and assaulted him. Police later took him into custody.
According to police, the attacker has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal. He is approximately 63 years old and a resident of the Old Mandi area of Jammu. During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that he runs a shop in Purani Mandi.
Police recovered a licensed pistol from the accused, which he used to carry out the attack. Police are currently interrogating him and trying to determine the motive behind the attack.
During interrogation, the accused told police that he had been planning to assassinate Farooq Abdullah for nearly 20 years. However, he only got the opportunity to do so now.
Kamal Singh Jamwal stated that he learned shortly before the wedding that Farooq Abdullah would be attending his cousin's son's wedding. Following this, he immediately planned the attack and arrived at the scene.
Following the incident, security agencies have cordoned off the entire area and launched an investigation. An investigation is also underway into how the accused managed to get so close to Farooq Abdullah despite having Z+ security. This incident has raised several questions about security arrangements.
Farooq Abdullah is the President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and a prominent leader in the state's politics. He has served as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir three times. His father, Sheikh Abdullah, also served as Chief Minister of the state, while his son, Omar Abdullah, is the current Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the incident, police and security agencies are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
