Islamabad: A senior member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), alleged to be associated with the planning of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has died mysteriously outside a mosque in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, raising further queries over a string of mysterious deaths of terror-related persons in the country.
The dead man is identified as Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz, who is a senior commander of LeT. As per reports, Aziz suddenly fell down outside the Quba Mosque in Islamabad on Saturday.
The cause of death is not known yet.
Reports claim Aziz was associated with a specialised LeT unit responsible for maintaining communication networks and providing financial support to families of terrorists killed during encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
Investigators have previously linked several LeT operatives to the planning and execution of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, which killed 166 people and shook the world.
Aziz was reportedly among the senior figures who played a role in strengthening the terror organisation’s operational structure.
According to local reports, Aziz had reportedly eaten at a restaurant before reaching the mosque for prayers. Moments later, he collapsed near the mosque gate.
No official reason for his death has been disclosed so far, and details surrounding the incident remain limited.
The development has drawn attention because it comes amid a string of mysterious attacks and deaths involving Pakistan-based terror operatives in recent months.
In recent months, several individuals linked to banned terror groups have reportedly been targeted by unidentified attackers in Pakistan.
Earlier, an LeT-linked figure claimed that dozens of the organisation’s members had been killed by “unknown gunmen” across locations including Karachi, Peshawar and Rawalakot.
The claim added to speculation surrounding the repeated targeting of terror-linked personalities operating in Pakistan.
The death of Qari Saeed Aziz comes at a time when Pakistan’s security landscape has witnessed a series of attacks involving militant figures.
From LeT operatives to individuals connected with criminal networks, several high-profile names have faced sudden attacks, raising questions about internal rivalries, intelligence operations and shifting dynamics within militant networks.
However, the circumstances behind Aziz’s death remain unconfirmed, and authorities have not publicly revealed details of any investigation.
