48°C in Delhi? IMD forecast signals intense heatwave across capital

Delhi is staring at an intense heatwave this week, with temperatures likely to hit 48°C by Thursday. Hot winds, prolonged daylight and soaring mercury levels may make outdoor conditions extremely challenging.

New Delhi: Delhi is set to witness an intense spell of summer heat this week, with temperatures expected to remain extremely high over the next seven days. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature is likely to stay around 35 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may soar to 45 degrees Celsius, making conditions uncomfortable throughout the day.

Weather forecasts suggest that the mercury will hover close to 35 degrees Celsius for most hours, offering little relief even during the evening and night. Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 5.78 kmph from the northwest direction at 292 degrees, while gusts may reach up to 10.78 kmph.

According to the latest forecast, the sun rose at 05:25 AM on Tuesday and is expected to set at 07:11 PM, resulting in prolonged daylight and extended heat exposure for residents.

Seven-Day Forecast Signals More Extreme Heat

The coming days may bring even harsher weather conditions to the capital. Temperatures are predicted to climb to 47 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and peak at 48 degrees Celsius on Thursday. A slight dip is expected afterward, with temperatures forecast at 45 degrees Celsius on Friday and 41 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Relief may arrive by Sunday and Monday, when temperatures are expected to settle around 35 and 36 degrees Celsius respectively. Authorities have advised people to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.
