Delhi is staring at an intense heatwave this week, with temperatures likely to hit 48°C by Thursday. Hot winds, prolonged daylight and soaring mercury levels may make outdoor conditions extremely challenging.

Delhi Weather Today: Delhi is likely to see a blistering spell of summer heat this week with temperatures likely to remain very high for the next seven days. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may reach 45 degrees Celsius, making for an uncomfortable day.

Weather forecasts say the mercury will not fall much below 35 degrees Celsius during most hours, offering little respite even in the evening and night. The wind is expected to be from the northwest direction at 292 degrees at a speed of 5.78 kmph, gusting to 10.78 kmph.

The latest forecast also reveals that the sun will rise at 05:25 AM on Tuesday and set at 07:11 PM, which translates to long daylight hours and prolonged exposure to heat for the people.

Severe days forecast for extreme heat signals

The capital could face even more severe weather conditions in the next few days. Temperatures are expected to reach 47 degrees Celsius (117 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday and peak at 48 degrees Celsius on Thursday. A slight dip is expected thereafter with temperatures for Friday and Saturday at 45 and 41 degrees Celsius respectively.

Relief may come on Sunday and Monday when temperatures are likely to settle around 35 and 36 degrees Celsius respectively. Officials have warned people to stay hydrated and not to be outside in the direct sun during peak afternoon hours.
