New Delhi: The impact of the monsoon continues across India, with several regions witnessing heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for 17 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar, predicting rain, thunderstorms and strong winds on September 3.
According to IMD, wind speeds in some areas may reach up to 65 kilometres per hour, increasing the risk of weather-related disruptions.
In Uttar Pradesh, thunderstorms and rainfall are expected on September 3 and 4. Districts including Auraiya, Banda, Chitrakoot, Etawah, Fatehpur, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Mahoba, Sitapur and Unnao are likely to witness changing weather conditions.
Several parts of the state are already affected by floods. Authorities have shifted thousands of people to safer locations, while rainfall activity is expected to continue in eastern Uttar Pradesh till September 5.
Delhi-NCR is likely to remain cloudy with chances of rainfall on September 3. IMD has predicted winds moving at 30 to 40 kmph along with light to moderate showers in some areas over the next few days.
Bihar may receive heavy rainfall on September 3 and 4, with chances of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas till September 6.
In Uttarakhand, an Orange Alert has been issued for Dehradun, Nainital and Bageshwar due to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Authorities have warned of possible landslides in hilly regions.
The states likely to witness rain and thunderstorms include Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tripura, Assam and Kerala.
IMD said weather activity may increase due to a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and nearby regions.
