Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma addresses a presser
New Delhi: Parvesh Verma on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of straying from its original ideals and indulging in extravagant practices.
During a press briefing, Verma claimed that AAP, which emerged from the India Against Corruption Movement, has abandoned its commitment to simplicity. He alleged that after the controversy over a so-called “Sheesh Mahal” in Delhi, a similar luxurious setup has now come up in Punjab as well.
He further alleged that several AAP leaders in Punjab are occupying government residences, adding that this has sparked political controversy and hints of dissatisfaction within the party.
Raising questions about a recent shift to a government property at Lodhi Estate, Verma said the scale of planning and resources involved appeared excessive. He argued that although the residence is government-owned, the spending on it seemed more in line with private luxury.
Verma also took aim at AAP leaders for what he described as a contradiction between their earlier promises and current lifestyle. “Leaders who once spoke about modest living and rejected official bungalows are now staying in high-end residences,” he said.
In a broader political swipe, Verma added that if the same effort had been directed toward development work in Delhi, the outcomes would have been more beneficial. He also claimed that recent exits of party workers reflect growing dissatisfaction within AAP.
