At the AI Summit CEO Roundtable, Nandan Nilekani highlighted how an idea proposed by Narendra Modi on applying AI to dairy farmers was implemented within three weeks through Amul.

New Delhi: At the AI Summit's CEO Roundtable, Nandan Nilekani cited the rapid diffusion of AI in India, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision became reality in just three weeks. He explained that during his meeting with the Prime Minister on January 8th, when the use of AI for farmers was discussed, the Prime Minister suggested that it also be implemented for cow and animal health.
Nilekani explained that a meeting was held that same day with PMO, MeitY officials, and Amul representatives. Following this, the AI-based application went live on February 11th. Amul is the world's largest dairy cooperative, with 3.6 million farmers. It handles over two billion milk transactions and manages approximately 40 million cattle annually.
He said that through the 'Saral Ben' app, a large number of farmers, especially women, are able to access instant information related to their animals' health, pregnancy, and milk production. This technology is not only increasing productivity but also improving farmers' income and convenience.
Referring to December 30, 2016, when the Prime Minister launched the BHIM app, Nilekani said that the same enthusiasm he felt for AI today is evident. The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has now become the world's largest payment platform, with over 21 billion transactions per month and over 500 million users. He believes that AI will have a similarly widespread impact.

Nilekani said that Amul's AI model ensures data sovereignty, meaning that data will remain safe within India. He expressed confidence that under the Prime Minister's leadership, the use of AI will bring about a major change in the lives of common people, farmers, students, and patients.
He said, "India can rise to the top in this AI race. In the coming months, many more such applications will emerge that will show the world how technology can improve the lives of ordinary people."
