New Delhi: A Phuket-Delhi Air India flight turned into a terrifying experience for passengers after severe turbulence caused panic inside the aircraft and left some passengers and crew members injured.
Following the incident, several travellers have raised questions over flight safety and alleged that the pilot’s behaviour after landing appeared unusual. One passenger claimed that the pilot “wasn’t walking straight” and questioned whether proper safety protocols were followed.
Passengers have demanded a detailed investigation by aviation authorities and accountability from the airline.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has started investigating the incident, which has been classified as a serious occurrence.
The aircraft was carrying 137 passengers, including three infants, along with eight crew members. Following standard procedures, both pilots underwent psychoactive substance screening.
Officials said the initial screening of the Pilot-in-Command showed a result requiring further confirmatory testing. Samples were sent to a designated laboratory, and the final report is awaited.
The incident has intensified discussions around aviation safety and emergency response procedures.
While investigations continue, authorities are examining all aspects of the flight, including turbulence handling, crew procedures and passenger assistance after landing.
Air India and aviation regulators are expected to provide further updates after the completion of the investigation.
