New Delhi: A Doha-Bengaluru IndiGo flight was diverted to Muscat, Oman, on Thursday after a pilot suffered a medical emergency during the journey. A Mayday call was declared after the crew member became incapacitated, prompting the aircraft to make an urgent landing.
Flight 6E 1302 landed safely at Muscat International Airport, where the affected crew member was immediately attended to by a medical team.
According to officials, the pilot became unwell while the Airbus A320neo aircraft was in operation, following which the flight crew declared a Mayday emergency.
The exact identity of the affected crew member — whether the pilot-in-command or the first officer — has not been disclosed.
IndiGo confirmed that the crew member’s condition improved after receiving medical assistance. The airline arranged an alternate aircraft and a new crew to continue the journey from Muscat to Bengaluru.
The airline said passengers were provided refreshments and regular updates during the delay. IndiGo apologised for the inconvenience and reiterated that passenger safety, crew welfare and aircraft security remain its top priorities.
The diversion comes shortly after another IndiGo flight faced an emergency situation. A Goa-Delhi flight had made a priority landing after take-off due to a reported technical issue.
Earlier, another IndiGo aircraft operating from Kolkata to Chennai also made an emergency landing after an engine-related problem.
The recent incidents have brought renewed attention to aviation safety checks and operational preparedness among Indian airlines.
