A tragic road accident in Jammu’s Akhnoor claimed two lives and left over 28 people injured after a speeding passenger bus collided with a Scorpio vehicle and overturned near Kot Garhi village. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with some reported in serious condition.
Speeding Bus Overturns in Akhnoor After Collision
Jammu: A tragic road accident occurred on Monday in the Akhnoor area of the Jammu division. A speeding passenger bus traveling from Jaurian to Akhnoor collided with a Scorpio vehicle and overturned. Two people were killed and approximately 28 passengers were injured. The accident occurred near Kot Garhi village in Akhnoor, where the bus overturned after the collision.
According to police sources, the bus was traveling from Jaurian to Akhnoor and was reportedly speeding. Near Kot Garhi village, the bus collided with a Scorpio vehicle. Following the collision, the driver lost control of the bus, and the bus overturned.
The accident was so severe that several passengers on board were injured. Relief and rescue operations were immediately initiated with the help of local people and the administration.
Two people died in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Rajni, wife of Joginder Lal, a resident of Pahariwala Khaur, and Vijay Kumar, a resident of Kolkata (who currently worked at a jeweler's shop in Jaurian).
In addition, approximately 28 passengers sustained minor to serious injuries. The injured include women, elderly people, and children.
Immediately after the accident, all the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals and are undergoing treatment. The injured include Sarishta Devi, Romesh Chander, Shivani Sharma, Jatru, Nirmala Devi, Krishna Lal, Babita Devi, Ashu Devi, Sonia Devi, Rameshwar Sharma, Rubina, Rakesh Kumari, and several others.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep grief over this tragic accident. In a condolence message, he stated that he was deeply saddened by the news of the deaths in the bus accident in Akhnoor.
Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, he said that his thoughts are with the families of the victims during this difficult time. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Taking cognizance of the incident, the police have launched an investigation. Preliminary investigations indicate that speeding and vehicle collision are the main causes of the accident.
