New Delhi: The Indian Railways has announced a major revision in the route and schedule of the 14663/14664 Amritsar–New Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express, aiming to improve connectivity for passengers from Seemanchal and nearby regions. The new order, issued on May 11, 2026, replaces the earlier notification of February 25, 2026.

One of the key highlights of the revision is the inclusion of Thakurganj station as a commercial stoppage, benefiting residents of Kishanganj, Thakurganj, Araria, Siliguri, and areas near the Nepal border. For years, local commuters had demanded better access to North India via train, and this development fulfills that long-standing demand.

Train Frequency and Schedule

The Amrit Bharat Express will now operate once a week:

14664 Amritsar–New Jalpaiguri departs from Amritsar every Thursday at 12:45 PM, passing through Sitapur City, Gonda, Bahraich, Gorakhpur, Paniahwa, and Forbesganj, reaching New Jalpaiguri at 4:15 AM on Saturday.

14663 New Jalpaiguri–Amritsar departs from New Jalpaiguri at 8:00 AM on Saturday, passing through Forbesganj, Gorakhpur, and Gonda, and arrives in Amritsar at 2:20 AM on Monday.
Benefits for Passengers

The revised stoppages are expected to bring significant convenience to laborers, students, business travelers, and other commuters. Passengers from Thakurganj and Kishanganj will no longer need to travel to Katihar or New Jalpaiguri for long-distance trains.

Residents near the Nepal border will also gain direct connectivity to Punjab, Delhi, and other parts of North India, boosting both social and commercial ties.

The Amrit Bharat Express is equipped with modern amenities, including comfortable seating, advanced coaches, strict safety protocols, and high hygiene standards, making it a preferred choice for travelers.

Railway officials have expressed optimism that this move will strengthen rail connectivity in the Seemanchal region and make travel safer, faster, and more convenient for passengers.
