New Delhi: The population of Asiatic lions in India has risen from 523 in 2015 to 891 in 2025. Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav shared this information on Monday on the occasion of World Lion Day.

In a post on He remarked that this demonstrates how development and nature conservation can go hand in hand.

He further added that as we observe World Lion Day, let us reiterate our pledge to protect our natural heritage and ensure that the roar of the Asiatic lion continues to echo for generations to come. Currently, the lions' habitat has expanded to 35,000 square kilometers, up from approximately 30,000 square kilometers in 2020.
