Barricades Breached, Tear Gas Fired: Chaos Erupts As CJP Protesters March Towards Parliament

Central Delhi witnessed chaotic scenes as police used tear gas and batons after CJP protesters allegedly tried to breach barricades and move towards Parliament.

New Delhi: Tension gripped several parts of central Delhi on Monday as security personnel used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters participating in the Cockroach Janta Party’s proposed march towards Parliament.

Clashes and scuffles were reported near Jantar Mantar, Rail Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan and Janpath after sections of the crowd allegedly attempted to cross police barricades and move towards the high-security Parliament complex.

Tear Gas Fired Near Shastri Bhawan

Police fired tear gas shells near Shastri Bhawan after protesters tried to push through barricades. Anti-riot vehicles were deployed at key locations as security forces attempted to prevent the march from advancing.

Visuals from Rail Bhawan showed large crowds facing heavy police deployment. Authorities repeatedly asked protesters to disperse before intensifying crowd-control measures.

Heavy Security Across Central Delhi

Multiple layers of barricades had already been installed around Parliament Street, Central Vista, Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations ahead of the protest.

Additional police and paramilitary personnel were stationed across the area, while CCTV surveillance, vehicle checks and patrolling were intensified.

Traffic and Metro Services Affected

The unrest also caused traffic disruptions in parts of central Delhi. The South Gate entry to Parliament was closed for vehicles as part of the security arrangements.

Metro access restrictions were reportedly imposed at some nearby stations as authorities sought to control the movement of protesters and prevent further gatherings.

CJP Presses Education Demands

The CJP called the “Chalo Sansad” march to demand accountability over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and wider reforms in the education sector.

The protesters have also been seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Delhi Police had earlier said the march did not have permission and warned that no unauthorised procession would be allowed towards Parliament.
