New Delhi: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval will travel to Beijing on Monday for the 25th round of India-China Special Representatives (SR) talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The high-level dialogue will focus on the ongoing border dispute, Line of Actual Control (LAC) situation and efforts to maintain peace between the two countries.

The talks come at a significant time as India and China continue diplomatic and military-level discussions to reduce tensions along the LAC. The meeting is also being held ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s expected visit to India for the BRICS Summit scheduled in New Delhi on September 12-13.

Ajit Doval-Wang Yi Meeting to Focus on Border Stability

During the Special Representatives dialogue, Ajit Doval and Wang Yi are expected to discuss key issues including troop deployment, border management, disengagement efforts and maintaining peace in sensitive areas along the LAC.

The India-China relationship witnessed a major setback after the violent Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, following which both countries deployed additional troops and military equipment along the eastern Ladakh border. Since then, several rounds of military and diplomatic talks have been held to resolve the standoff and ensure a gradual reduction of tensions.

Special Representatives Mechanism: A Key Diplomatic Platform

The Special Representatives mechanism between India and China was established to find a political solution to the long-standing boundary dispute. The dialogue aims not only to address immediate border concerns but also to explore a broader framework for resolving the dispute through diplomatic channels.

India has consistently maintained that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for improving overall bilateral relations with China.

LAC Situation and Bilateral Relations on Agenda

The upcoming talks are likely to cover issues related to border peace, troop positions, military disengagement and future management of the LAC.

Both countries have repeatedly emphasized the importance of dialogue to resolve differences and avoid further escalation.
