Patna: The Bihar government has announced that all FIRs registered against people who participated in protests over the alleged NEET (UG) paper leak and other examination irregularities will be withdrawn. The decision also includes the immediate release of those who were arrested or detained during the demonstrations.
According to an official notification issued on Monday night, the legal process to withdraw all FIRs, criminal complaints and show-cause notices linked to the protests held before 6 pm on July 26, 2026, will begin immediately.

The notification further states that individuals who took part in the protests will not face any direct or indirect action in the future in connection with these cases. Those currently in custody for cases registered before the specified deadline will be released without delay.
The decision comes days after widespread demonstrations across Bihar demanding action over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and other recruitment tests.
According to Bihar Police, 694 people were detained during the statewide bandh organised by Left-affiliated student groups. Among them, 339 were minors and students, who were released after age verification. Action was initially initiated against the remaining 355 individuals over allegations of involvement in violent incidents.
Police also reported that the protests left 91 police personnel and officials and 13 civilians injured, while 13 government vehicles were damaged during the clashes.

The protests also triggered controversy after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed a police constable carrying an AK-47 rifle during demonstrations in Siwan. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.
Following public outrage and political criticism, the constable was suspended and departmental proceedings were initiated. Police officials clarified that personnel had been instructed not to open fire during the protests and stated that no injuries were caused by the alleged firing.
