New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and a by-election, fielding 11 leaders from six states as the party prepares to strengthen its presence in the Upper House of Parliament.

According to the list released by the BJP's Central Election Committee, the party has nominated:

  • Tai Tagak from Arunachal Pradesh
  • Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansingh Parmar, and Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanjaria from Gujarat
  • Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agrawal from Madhya Pradesh
  • A. Sharda Devi from Manipur
  • Alka Gurjar and Satish Poonia from Rajasthan
  • Debashish Samantaray for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Odisha

The announcement comes ahead of the biennial Rajya Sabha elections scheduled later this month. In Gujarat, where the BJP enjoys a commanding majority in the State Assembly, the party is expected to comfortably secure all four seats in the contest.

The nominations also signal the BJP leadership's continued emphasis on regional representation and organizational experience, with several candidates having played significant roles in the party's state-level and national structures.

Political observers are closely watching the Gujarat contest, where the Congress is likely to lose its lone Rajya Sabha seat, potentially leaving the party without any representation from the state in the Upper House for the first time.

The Rajya Sabha elections are being held to fill vacancies arising from the retirement of members whose terms are ending in June 2026.
