Patna: Now, it is more clear that JDU Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is going to step down either on Monday or Tuesday, paving the way for a new BJP Chief Minister who is expected to take oath mostly on 15th April. Reports from Patna clearly indicate that Nitish, on Saturday, began shifting his household belongings from his official residence at 1, Anne Marg to his new place.

Oath Ceremony Likely on 15th April

Sources at the BJP Headquarters informed that the oath of the new Chief Minister and formation of the new government would take place on 15th April.

Political Activity Intensifies in Both Camps

Meanwhile, hectic political activity is taking place in both the BJP and JD(U) camps in order to ensure a smooth transition of power from JD(U) to BJP. A team of BJP central observers is expected to arrive in Patna tomorrow. Separate JD(U) and BJP legislature party meetings are scheduled today and tomorrow, followed by an NDA legislature party meeting on 14th to elect their new leader.

BJP's Big Political Moment in Bihar

There is an upbeat mood at the BJP headquarters as, for the first time in Bihar, a BJP leader is likely to occupy the top Chief Minister post. It is being seen as a dream come true for the BJP, which has been trying for some time to win over the crucial northern state of Bihar.

Speculation Over Chief Minister Candidates

On the other hand, there are intense speculations in media and political circles over the new Chief Minister candidate. Speculations are also rife about whether the same formula of two Deputy Chief Ministers will continue or whether the system will be retained or changed. Nitish Kumar's son Nishant Kumar is likely to be made Deputy Chief Minister or given a minister with a heavy portfolio.

Front-Runners for CM Post

With regard to the main question of the new BJP Chief Minister, the current Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary (OBC) is a front runner for the post. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai (Yadav) is also seen as another possible candidate.

Samrat Choudhary's Growing Political Role

Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary is said to be moving closer to Nitish Kumar these days and meeting him regularly over the last one week. Choudhary accompanied Nitish to Delhi on 10th April, when he took oath as Rajya Sabha member, and both returned to Patna the same evening.

Internal differences within BJP

However, within the BJP there are different opinions on Choudhary. Some leaders feel he does not come from the party’s traditional organizational base. Choudhary joined the BJP only in 2017. Before that, he was in RJD and was a minister in the Rabri Devi government, and later he joined JD(U) and again became a minister in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet.

Other Names in Discussion

In fact, for the last few days, new names have also been doing the rounds. These include the present SC/ST Welfare Minister Lakhendra Paswan.

Women Candidates Also in Race

With the BJP leadership stressing women’s representation and a special session of Parliament next week, there are two to three women candidates also being discussed. These include former Deputy CM Renu Devi and former Olympian and present Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh (daughter of former Railway Minister Digvijay Singh).

Final Decision Likely Based on Strategy

Sources indicate that the choice of the new Chief Minister will depend on several factors, including caste equations and the BJP’s long-term strategy in Bihar.
