Jalandhar: Security agencies were put on alert on Saturday after bomb threat emails were received by two schools in Jalandhar, just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Punjab.

The threatening messages, though sent to the schools, reportedly mentioned the Dera Ballan directly, prompting immediate police action.

Security  Trigger

Following the alerts, police teams carried out thorough security checks at the school campuses, and bomb disposal squads were deployed as a precautionary measure. No students were present at the time, as the schools were closed for a holiday.

The Prime Minister is slated to visit Dera Sachkhand Ballan on Sunday to mark the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. Officials said the threat emails are being examined and an investigation is underway to identify their source.

Earlier Incident

This incident comes amid a spate of similar threats in the region. Earlier this week, multiple schools in Chandigarh received bomb threat messages, which later turned out to be hoaxes after detailed checks revealed nothing suspicious.

In recent months, comparable threats have also been reported from parts of Punjab, including Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala, as well as Ambala in neighbouring Haryana.

While most such alerts have proven to be false, each case has led to heightened security and emergency response measures.
