
CBI Director Praveen Sood gets one year extension (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Praveen Sood on Wednesday got an extension of one year. The development came a day after the meeting of the high-powered selection committee (HPC) was held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence in New Delhi.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi and Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant attended the meeting. Sood will now serve as the CBI Director for the fourth consecutive year. He joined the post in 2022.

CBI secures extradition of wanted fugitive Iqbal Singh from Portugal
This is the second extension in tenure for Praveen Sood, who is a Karnataka cadre 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
Assam and Meghalaya cadre IPS officer G.P. Singh, who is currently heading the Central Reserve Police Force was also in contention for the coveted post along with Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, chief of Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee, has approved the extension in tenure of Shri Praveen Sood, IPS (KN:86) as Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of one year beyond 24.05.2026.,” the official order read.
