New Delhi: Hamza Burhan, one of the masterminds behind the 2019 Pulwama attack has been reportedly shot dead by unidentified attackers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), according to media reports and security sources.

The incident reportedly took place in Muzaffarabad, where Hamza Burhan was allegedly attacked inside his office. Reports claim he died after being riddled with bullets by unknown assailants.

Posed as a Teacher While Linked to Terror Activities

Sources said Hamza Burhan had been living in Pakistan while presenting himself as a teacher. However, security agencies had linked him to multiple terror-related activities, including training militants and assisting cross-border infiltration operations.

He was allegedly associated with terror networks operating in PoK for several years and remained under the radar of Indian security agencies following the Pulwama attack investigation.

Name Linked to 2019 Pulwama Terror Attack

On February 14, 2019, a suicide bombing targeted a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, killing more than 40 personnel. The attack triggered nationwide outrage and sharply escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.

Investigative agencies had reportedly identified Hamza Burhan among those involved in planning and facilitating the attack.

Balakot Airstrike Followed Pulwama Attack

In response to the Pulwama terror strike, India carried out the Balakot airstrike targeting terror infrastructure across the border. The Indian Air Force struck a Jaish-e-Mohammed training facility in Balakot, describing it as a retaliatory operation against terrorism.

The airstrike became one of the most significant cross-border military actions between the two countries in recent years.

No Official Confirmation Yet

So far, there has been no official confirmation from Pakistani authorities or the administration in PoK regarding Hamza Burhan’s death. The identity of the attackers also remains unknown.
