CBI brings back fugitive Sheela Kalyani from Saudi Arabia to India with the help of Interpol

The CBI was wanted by Sheela Kalyani in a case related to criminal conspiracy and fraud. Upon the CBI’s request, Interpol issued a Red Notice against her on 5 October 2023.

New Delhi: India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), achieved a significant success by bringing back wanted fugitive Manakandathil Thekkethi, alias Sheela Kalyani, from Saudi Arabia to India on 9 October.

The CBI was wanted by Sheela Kalyani in a case related to criminal conspiracy and fraud. Upon the CBI's request, Interpol issued a Red Notice against her on 5 October 2023.

A CBI team traveled to Saudi Arabia to bring Sheela back to India and pursue the legal process.

The CBI, which is Interpol's National Central Bureau in India, coordinates with all agencies in the country through BHARATPOL and tracks fugitives through Interpol channels.

To date, such efforts have resulted in the return of more than 130 wanted criminals to India.
