Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a 24-year-old truck driver identified as Aman in connection with allegations that he monitored the movement of Indian Army personnel and convoys near the International Border and shared live footage with Pakistan-based handlers, according to police-linked sources.
The arrest has triggered a wider investigation into the alleged surveillance operation, including the use of a SIM-enabled CCTV camera, communications and financial transactions.
Investigators allege that Aman installed a SIM-enabled CCTV camera outside his residence in Kathua. According to reports, the camera was positioned to observe a road used by security forces and was allegedly capable of transmitting footage in real time. Authorities are examining the equipment to determine how it was used and what information may have been transmitted.
Sources cited in media reports allege that the footage was sent to handlers across the border. Some reports have linked the alleged operation to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). However, the identities and precise roles of the alleged handlers remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are also examining alleged financial transactions connected to the case. Sources have reported that Aman was allegedly paid ₹20,000 for providing surveillance footage.
Police are looking into the payment trail along with the accused's communications and electronic devices.
The arrest reportedly followed a counter-intelligence investigation involving Jammu and Kashmir Police and intelligence agencies. According to current reports, investigators are examining whether the alleged surveillance formed part of a wider effort to collect information about military activity in the border region.
A case has reportedly been registered against Aman under the Official Secrets Act. Authorities are examining his phone, the alleged surveillance equipment, communication links and financial records as they try to establish the full extent of the alleged activity.
