New Delhi: The Opposition’s third consecutive day of protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and claims of "vote chori" witnessed a dramatic turn in Delhi’s Connaught Place on Thursday. A youth who allegedly entered the protest and started shouting slogans against Rahul Gandhi was caught and beaten by NSUI workers, with the entire incident captured on camera.

The incident took place during a march by Congress and other Opposition parties demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations related to the electoral rolls and the election process. The situation became tense after the unidentified youth suddenly entered the protesters’ gathering and began raising slogans against Rahul Gandhi.

The NSUI workers present at the march reportedly confronted the youth and caught hold of him. A scuffle followed, with the youth being beaten by some workers. As the situation escalated, a few leaders participating in the march intervened and managed to pull him away from the crowd.

The entire incident was captured by Dynamite News cameras. The exclusive video shows the youth entering the protesters’ gathering, raising slogans and subsequently being surrounded and confronted by NSUI workers before being taken out of the crowd.

What Happened During The Opposition March?

According to NSUI workers who spoke to Dynamite News, the youth suddenly entered the protest and began shouting slogans against Rahul Gandhi. They alleged that his behaviour appeared intended to disrupt the demonstration and create tension among the protesters.

The workers also claimed that a bottle of codeine-based cough syrup was allegedly found in the youth’s possession. They further alleged that he had consumed the syrup as an intoxicant and had deliberately entered the protest to create a disturbance.

These claims have not been independently verified. The identity of the youth had not been established at the time of publication, and there was no official confirmation regarding whether he was under the influence of any substance or why he entered the protest.

The video clearly shows the youth, but his identity and alleged motive remain unconfirmed.

Youth Allowed To Leave, No Police Complaint So Far

After the confrontation, some leaders intervened and helped remove the youth from the crowd. NSUI workers said the youth was subsequently allowed to leave.

No formal police complaint had been filed by NSUI workers in connection with the incident at the time of publication. There was also no confirmed information about any police case or legal action against the youth.

The absence of a formal complaint means that several claims surrounding the incident remain allegations at this stage. Any further police action or official investigation could establish the circumstances behind the confrontation.

The incident occurred amid an intensifying political confrontation over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Congress and other Opposition parties have been protesting against what they describe as irregularities in the electoral process and alleged manipulation of voter lists. The Opposition has also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protests have continued for a third consecutive day, with Opposition leaders and workers taking their campaign to the streets. The demonstrations have added to the political pressure surrounding the Election Commission and the ongoing debate over electoral roll verification.

The controversy has also brought terms such as electoral integrity, voter verification, electoral rolls, polling rights and transparency in the election process into sharper public focus.

Protest Becomes Aggressive

The confrontation has added a fresh layer to an already politically charged protest. While the main Opposition campaign is centred on allegations concerning electoral rolls and SIR, the incident involving the unidentified youth has shifted attention towards crowd control, protest security and political tensions on the ground.

Connaught Place is one of Delhi’s busiest commercial and public spaces. Any disruption during a large political gathering can quickly attract public attention, particularly when the incident is recorded on video.

The footage could generate further debate on social media, where short clips from political protests often spread rapidly. However, claims about the youth’s identity, alleged intoxication or alleged intention should not be treated as established facts without independent or official confirmation.

The Opposition’s protest over SIR and alleged vote theft is expected to remain a major political flashpoint. With the demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation continuing, the confrontation between the Opposition and the Election Commission is likely to remain in the spotlight.

For the Connaught Place incident, attention will now be on whether a police complaint is filed or whether authorities issue any official statement. Any such development could clarify the identity of the youth, the circumstances leading to the confrontation and whether any legal action follows.

The incident has also highlighted the challenges of maintaining law and order during politically sensitive demonstrations, where large crowds, counter-slogans and heightened political tensions can quickly turn a protest into a confrontation.
