Rahul Gandhi, INDIA Bloc Plan Supreme Court March Amid SIR Controversy
New Delhi: Security arrangements have been strengthened across central Delhi ahead of the INDIA bloc’s planned march to the Supreme Court on Monday. Police are preparing for a large gathering as Opposition leaders seek to raise concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
The proposed march comes amid escalating political tensions following protests in the national capital over the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police barricades and security deployments have been reported at several locations as authorities prepare for the demonstration.
Commuters travelling through Connaught Place, Barakhamba Road and nearby parts of Lutyens’ Delhi may face traffic congestion and diversions during the protest. Government and private offices are scheduled to function normally, with no general holiday announced.
The security arrangements could affect movement along roads connected to the proposed march route. Office-goers and other commuters have been advised to account for possible delays while travelling through central Delhi.
The heightened security follows earlier demonstrations that led to barricading and restrictions in parts of the capital. The authorities are expected to maintain a strong security presence to manage the gathering and prevent any law-and-order situation.
The INDIA bloc has planned the march to press its demands concerning alleged electoral malpractice, the SIR exercise and the removal of Gyanesh Kumar as Chief Election Commissioner. Opposition leaders have also sought to bring their concerns before Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has appealed to Opposition parties, young people and civil society groups to join the demonstration, presenting it as a campaign to protect democratic institutions and electoral rights.
The latest mobilisation follows several days of protests in Delhi, including demonstrations against the Election Commission. The Election Commission has maintained that its decisions follow established legal procedures, while the Opposition continues to demand greater accountability over the electoral revision process.
