FTSCs were launched in October 2019 following the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018, and a Supreme Court directive. The initiative is intended to ensure time-bound trials and disposal of pending rape and POCSO cases.
The aim is to expand the network from 779 operational courts to 850, with a financial outlay of Rs 3,788.04 crore. The expansion is expected to improve the disposal of pending cases. The coverage of courts will be expanded to those districts where a large number of cases are pending.
