New Delhi: Tension escalated at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday after police carried out a mild lathicharge on protesters gathered ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) proposed 'Chalo Sansad' march. The action came amid unprecedented security arrangements across the national capital on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session.
Thousands of protesters assembled at Jantar Mantar in support of the CJP's call to march towards Parliament. As security personnel attempted to control the gathering, police resorted to a mild lathicharge to prevent protesters from moving towards restricted areas.
The New Delhi district remains under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with prohibitory orders in force and heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel around Parliament and key government installations.

Security personnel were seen rushing to reinforce the massive iron gates of the Parliament complex on Monday as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest continued to grow at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, just a few kilometres away.
The heightened security arrangements coincided with the commencement of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and the protesters' planned Sansad March. Additional security forces were deployed around the Parliament complex as authorities remained on high alert to prevent any disruption.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Parliament premises around noon on Monday, with the entry gates being closed soon after. Security forces used batons to control the crowd, injuring a few protesters who received first aid on site. Police fired tear gas at protesters, who have been stopped at Raisina Road, barely 200 metres from Parliament.
Samajwadi Party MPs Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav were detained by police while participating in the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. The detentions came as the protest intensified, with opposition parties accusing the government of suppressing peaceful demonstrations.

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticized the government's handling of the CJP protest, alleging that police resorted to lathi charges instead of engaging with the youth gathered at Jantar Mantar.
He said lakhs of young people had assembled to seek justice and urged the government to "drop the arrogance" and listen to their demands. Kejriwal appealed to the Centre to treat the protesters as "our own country's children" and resolve the issue through dialogue.

Tension escalated at the CJP protest site as police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators, triggering chaotic scenes. Protesters were seen running for safety while dramatic visuals emerged from the ground.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor questioned the alleged use of lathi charge at the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. “When a non-violent protest is taking place, what is the reason for a lathi-charge? Lathi charge is not an act of non-violence. It is an act of violence. I don't understand the logic of this,” Tharoor told reporters.
The police have purportedly used tear gas to disperse protesters near the Parliament complex amid Cockroach Janta Party's protest march, according to a video posted by social activist Yogendra Yadav on X.

"Stop using tear gas on the youth in front of the Parliament. The government should choose the path of dialogue, not suppression. Listen to the youth by removing your incompetent Education Minister," he wrote in the post (originally in Hindi).
This comes on the first day of the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. Security officials have taken position at the entrance and the gates of the Parliament complex have been closed.
The CJP on Monday claimed an ambulance without any patient or any emergency was sent to Jantar Mantar and could have caused chaos.
“An ambulance WITHOUT ANY PATIENT inside and WITH NO EMERGENCY IT WAS ATTENDING TO was just sent into Jantar Mantar and almost caused a stampede,” CJP said in a post on X.
The founding president of the Cockroach Janta Party, Abhijeet Dipke broke his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
He Is set to meet JP Nadda.

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi joined the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) “Chalo Sansad” march in Delhi on Monday, expressing support for the protesters and urging that the focus remain on their demands rather than on which celebrities attended the demonstration.
Addressing reporters during the march, Azmi said the gathering was intended to be a peaceful protest and described it as an exercise of the democratic right to dissent.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shouted slogans amid the protest. He was heard shouting, “Tanashahi nahi chalegi” while atop a truck at the protest site.
Rajya Sabha proceedings have been adjourned and will reconvene at 12:00 PM today.
Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, "You have allowed me to present my views regarding this paper leak and the NEET examination scandal. This is a matter concerning students; I am speaking about the futures of lakhs of children. Thousands of students have gathered at Jantar Mantar for this cause. A lathi-charge has taken place there. The government is trying to use force, suppress voices, and drive them away."
The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12:00 PM on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, amid disruptions in the House.
Delhi Police posteed on X that, "Some segments from media have mentioned sporadic use of violence/detentions at Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police. It is informed that no such incident has taken place and protest is being handled professionally. All are requested not to fall pray to any rumour/ misgivings, and, to assist Delhi Police in maintaining peace and public order at and around the site."
Amid the heightened security, access to several Delhi Metro station gates was restricted, affecting commuters heading towards the protest site. The entry and exit gates at Patel Chowk, Janpath and Rajiv Chowk Metro stations were closed on Monday morning. CJP advised supporters and commuters to plan their travel accordingly before heading towards Jantar Mantar.
In a significant development, three student activists Neha Bora, Manish Kumar and Aameen Amitoj ended their 23-day hunger strike after an appeal by a delegation comprising actor Shabana Azmi, actor Prakash Raj, social activist Yogendra Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha and other public figures.
Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital issued a fresh medical bulletin stating that activist Sonam Wangchuk's vital parameters remain stable, but his blood parameters continue to require close clinical observation. Doctors from Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS are monitoring his condition continuously to detect and manage any potential complications at the earliest.
