Joshimath: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall, storms, and adverse weather conditions in Rudraprayag. In view of the prevailing weather, an 'Orange Alert' has been issued; consequently, the administration has, as a precautionary measure, temporarily suspended the Kedarnath pilgrimage.
Prioritizing the safety of pilgrims, the district administration has issued directives to halt travelers at the nearest designated holding points and safe locations.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar stated that the pilgrimage has been temporarily suspended in light of the inclement weather and the Orange Alert.
He added that the Police, NDRF, SDRF, DDRF, and other relief agencies have been placed on high alert. The pilgrimage will resume as soon as weather conditions normalize. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Vishal Mishra is continuously monitoring the weather situation and the pilgrimage routes.
Officials deployed in sensitive areas, including Sonprayag and Gaurikund, have been instructed not to allow any pilgrim to proceed further until the weather conditions improve. Additionally, the control room is maintaining constant surveillance over the pilgrimage routes through CCTV cameras.
