EOW filed 2300-page chargesheet in court
Raipur: Investigation is going on continuously in the alleged liquor scam worth crores of rupees in Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) has filed a chargesheet in the special court on July 7. More than 29 Excise Department officials have been made accused in this chargesheet.
According to the information revealed, the chargesheet has been compiled in 29 files. The role of the officer has been described in this chargesheet of about 5000 pages. According to the EOW, the scam involved the illegal sale of liquor with duplicate holograms, which was delivered directly from the distillery to retail shops "under the supervision of district excise officers".
No arrest of any officer
It is worth noting that despite the seriousness of the allegations, none of the officers named in this chargesheet have been arrested yet. If sources are to be believed, most of the officers who have been accused in this charge sheet are working in their respective posts in the department. At the same time, some others have also retired now.
What has come to light in the investigation so far?
According to the investigation so far, this corruption started in February 2019. At this time, 200 trucks carrying 800 boxes of liquor were sent from the distillery every month. It is said that initially each box was sold for Rs 2,840.
Later as this operation expanded, its quantity was doubled in a month and 400 trucks started being sent. Along with this, the price of the box also increased to Rs 3,880. The investigation revealed that within just three years, more than 60 lakh boxes of liquor were allegedly sold illegally, earning illegal revenue of about Rs 2,174.60 crore.
