Raipur: As many as 26 Naxalites, including top Maoist leader Nambat Keahavrao, have been killed and many others injured in an ongoing operation involving security forces and left-wing extremists at hilly areas of Abujhmad in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, security sources said on Wednesday.
Sources said forces have surrounded many senior commanders of the extremists, adding these top Naxalites include Rupesh and Vikalp who have been under the security scanner for sometime.
Operation Continuing
Forces which are a part of the ongoing encounter include teams drawn from District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Narayanpur, Dantewara, Bijapur, Kodangaon and North Bastar's Kanker district. CoBRA commandos and STF jawans are also a part of the operation.
The objective of the security forces' action is to get the areas known to be the hotbeds of Naxalites vacated and establish permanent patrols of the forces, according to Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma. He said the ongoing operation is based on intelligence inputs. "The operation has been successful," he said.
One jawan has been martyred while another has received injuries, sources added.
