Srinagar: A shocking firing incident has been reported from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, where a CISF jawan allegedly opened fire on his colleagues, killing four personnel, including an Assistant Commandant. The accused jawan has been taken into custody, and security agencies have started an investigation into the incident.
The incident took place at the Sewa Hydel Power Project area in the Mashka region of Basohli in Kathua, where CISF personnel were deployed for security duties. Initial reports suggest that a dispute broke out among the personnel before the firing took place. However, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be confirmed.
According to officials, the firing resulted in the deaths of Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Laxman Singh, and constables Sanjeev Kumar and Mohammad Rafiq.
The injured personnel were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The incident created panic in the area, following which senior officials reached the spot to assess the situation.
After the firing, security personnel managed to control the situation and detained the accused CISF head constable. His service weapon has also been taken into possession as part of the investigation.
The CISF and Jammu and Kashmir Police are examining the circumstances that led to the shooting. Officials are collecting evidence and questioning personnel present at the location to establish the sequence of events.
The CISF has initiated an internal inquiry into the incident. Authorities are also looking into whether any personal dispute, workplace-related issue, or other factors contributed to the alleged fratricide case.
