New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke took a cheeky dig at his brief detention by sharing a meme featuring Shah Rukh Khan in his elderly look from the film Veer-Zaara after being granted bail.

"How it feels walking out of jail after 24 hours with no wifi and phone," Dipke wrote on X.

Dipke was granted bail on certain conditions on Saturday, less than 24 hours after Delhi Police took him into preventive custody over his planned 'Tiranga Yatra' in Connaught Place (CP).

Bail After Brief Detention

Delhi Police said that Dipke would be released after signing a peace bond, a written undertaking to maintain peace and comply with the applicable conditions.

Dipke was detained shortly after leaving the residence of NCP-SCP spokesperson Anish Gawande, where he had been staying, to attend the planned flag march in Connaught Place.

As he left the residence, a police official told him, "We are placing you under preventive detention. Section 163 is in force in Connaught Place. You are being detained."

Flag March Sparks Clash Over Restrictions

Before the detention, more than 10 police personnel had reached the house and asked Dipke not to proceed with the demonstration at Connaught Place. They cited concerns over traffic congestion, public safety and possible disruption to commercial activity.

During an exchange captured on video, Dipke challenged the restrictions, saying, “We (CJP) never said we are holding a protest. We said we would wave the national flag. Is that not allowed either? Is the Tricolour unlawful?” A policeman responded that the flag was the pride of the country.

Several sheets of paper were seen lying on a table inside the house, and Dipke was later seen signing them.

Police Cite Crowd and Business Concerns

In a notice served on Dipke, police referred to his public statements and social media appeals asking people to assemble at Connaught Place, allegedly without prior permission. The notice was issued in connection with proceedings before the Delhi High Court in two petitions.

Police described Connaught Place as a busy commercial hub with limited entry and exit points. They said a crowd gathering in one circle could obstruct movement in the others, making it difficult to disperse people or allow emergency access.

The notice also highlighted the area's numerous shops, restaurants, hotels, banks and offices, warning that disruptions during the evening rush and the festive season could affect businesses. According to the notice, more than 15 lakh traders and employees depend on the peaceful and orderly functioning of Connaught Place for their livelihoods.
