New Delhi: The Union government has reached out to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) ahead of its proposed 'Chalo Sansad' march on Monday, July 20, with a delegation of the movement set to meet Union Minister J P Nadda for talks.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said government officials had approached the group and invited its meeting delegation ahead of thousands of protesters moving on to march towards parliament on the opening day of the monsoon session.
Mobile internet services seems to have been suspended in parts of central Delhi to enhance security precautions as large contingents of Delhi Police and paramilitary are deployed in various parts of Delhi.
The outreach is amid spine-tingling security measures in the national capital. The police have yet to give clearance for the march, but the council of CJP leaders say the protest will go ahead as scheduled.
The development follows hospitalisation of activist, educator Sonam Wangchuk, shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday after 21 days of hunger strike.
In a handwritten letter shared on social media on Monday, Wangchuk said he was "feeling very fine" and that his health parameters remained normal. He appealed to authorities to allow him to temporarily leave the hospital so he could join the march to Parliament. His family has said he continues his fast while receiving medical care.
Despite its name, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is not a registered political party. It began as satirical campaign, later evolved into a nationwide youth-led movement demanding reforms in India's education system. Sansad March however has drawn participation from students, parents, activists and several political leaders, making it one of the largest youth protests in recent months.
