As part of the celebrations, CM Stalin presented Thiruvalluvar Day awards to 13 scholars and distinguished personalities for their contributions to Tamil language, literature and social thought.

Chennai: On the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day, Chief Minister MK Stalin said the timeless principles articulated by Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar-courage, generosity, wisdom and dynamism-continue to shape the policies and vision of his government.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said he was committed to upholding four key promises in the state: courage to confront social injustice and divisive forces, welfare-driven schemes to uplift the underprivileged, initiatives to strengthen the intellectual capacity of the younger generation, and sustained efforts to promote industrial development and women’s empowerment.

Top Awardees Donate
Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan received the Perarignar Anna Award, while former chief secretary V. Irai Anbu was honoured with the Tamil Thendral Thiru Vi Ka Award. Both recipients donated the Rs 5 lakh cash component of their awards to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

Other honours presented during the event included the Thiruvalluvar Award (2026) to Mu Pe Sathiyavel Muruganar; the Periyar Award (2025) to A. Arulmozhi; the Annai Ambedkar Award (2025) to Sinthanai Selvan; the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Award (2025) to SM Idayathulla; the Mahakavi Bharatiyar Award (2025) to poet Nellai Jayantha; the Pavendar Bharathidasan Award (2025) to poet Yugabharathi; the Muthamizh Kaavalar Ki. Aa. Pe. Viswanatham Award (2025) to S. Chellappa; and the Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Award (2025) to Viduthalai Virumbi.
The Ilakkaiya Maamani Awards for 2025 were conferred on T. Ramalingam for Classical Tamil, C. Mahendran for Research, and R. Narendrakumar for Creative Tamil.
