New Delhi: Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress has made a major change in its state organisation. The party has appointed three-time MLA Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ as the new Uttar Pradesh Congress president, replacing Ajay Rai. Saharanpur MP Imran Masood has been given the responsibility of working president.

Congress reshuffles state team ahead of polls

Aradhana Mishra was earlier the leader of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Legislature Party and represents the Rampur Khas Assembly constituency in Pratapgarh. By assigning an important organisational role to Imran Masood alongside her, the Congress has made changes to its organisational structure in the state.

The party has appointed Devendra Nishad and Alok Prasad as senior vice-presidents, while Chaudhary Virendra Singh has been appointed leader of the Congress Legislature Party.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, attention will also remain on the future political course of the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance and discussions over seat-sharing. Some analysts have viewed the new team as an attempt by the Congress to expand its social and regional reach in Uttar Pradesh. However, it would be premature to draw any final conclusions about seat-sharing or the terms of any alliance solely on the basis of this organisational change.
