CRPF Jawan Shoots Dead 2 Colleagues, Injures Another Before Dying by Suicide in Nagaon, Assam

New Delhi: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan on Tuesday allegedly shot dead two of his fellow personnel before killing himself over an internal dispute inside a CRPF camp in Assam's Nagaon district on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the 34 Battalion camp in Katimari Grant at around 7 am and is being investigated by the local police and CRPF authorities.

Police officials said Assistant Sub-Inspector (General Duty) Ballani Premabaram, who was deployed on security duty at the camp's main gate, allegedly opened fire on fellow personnel using his service weapon. Preliminary findings indicate that the firing followed an altercation inside the camp, although investigators are yet to establish the exact motive behind the incident.

The firing claimed the lives of Sub-Inspector (General Duty) Ramnawal Singh Yadav and Head Constable (General Duty) Vishnu Prasad Baghel. Officials said Yadav had reportedly arrived at the camp for official document verification when he was shot. Both personnel died from firearm injuries sustained during the incident.

Another CRPF personnel, Assistant Sub-Inspector (Mane) Govind Sripul, suffered serious gunshot injuries in the firing. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Nagaon for emergency medical treatment and is reported to be in critical condition. Doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

Police said the accused ASI later entered the barracks and allegedly used the same service firearm to shoot himself. He died on the spot before medical assistance could be provided.

Nagaon Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Paramita Sarkar confirmed that the incident took place inside the CRPF's 34 Battalion camp in Katimari and that the accused personnel was posted at the main entrance of the camp at the time of the incident.

Following the incident, the entire camp was secured and access was restricted as police, forensic experts and senior CRPF officers began collecting evidence. Investigators are examining the service weapon, ballistic evidence, CCTV footage, duty deployment records and statements of eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A departmental inquiry has also been ordered to determine the circumstances that led to the firing, including whether there were any disciplinary issues, operational stress, personal disputes or other contributing factors.

The CRPF has not yet issued an official statement on the possible motive behind the incident. Officials said all angles are being examined, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the criminal investigation, forensic examination and the internal departmental probe. The investigation is underway, they added.
