Delhi High Court Orders Removal of Defamatory Content Linking Himayani Puri to Epstein
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has ordered a ban on articles being circulated linking Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri's daughter Himayani Puri with sex offender Epstein.
Several articles and news reports have been shared on public platforms linking Union Minister Hardeep Puri's daughter Himayani Puri with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In particular, various articles and news have been spread on platforms like Google, X, Meta, and LinkedIn in a defamatory manner.
This has been deliberately spread to tarnish her name. In those circulated articles and news, allegations were made that she had business, financial, and personal connections with Jeffrey Epstein and his close associates.
Claiming that these articles and news reports are false and must be banned, and seeking ₹10 crore in damages from the websites where they were published, Himayani Puri filed a petition in the Delhi High Court.
The petition came up for hearing before Justice Mini Pushkarna. At that time, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for Himayani, argued that all these articles were published based on speculation and intended to damage the petitioner’s reputation. He emphasized that such defamatory content is being spread against the petitioner solely because she is the daughter of a Union Minister.
He further stated that all this content has been uploaded from within the country and urged that companies like Google be directed to immediately remove these articles and news from public platforms.
Following this, Justice Mini Pushkarna issued an order directing platforms like Google, X, and Meta to block the defamatory articles.
The judge also clarified that this order applies only to articles and news uploaded from within India and adjourned the hearing of the case to August 7.
