Biker falls to death in a pit in Janakpuri
New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a biker died after he fell into an unmanned pit dug by Delhi Jal Board for repairs in Janakpuri. In viral photos on social media, the man's body can be seen lying next to his Apache RTR 200 bike in the pit.
The eyewitnesses said that no warning signs or barricades were there around the area under repair by the Delhi Jal Board. It raises serious concerns about safety measures at construction sites.
AAP leader and former MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj has slammed the Delhi Government. He took to social media X and wrote, "Shocking !!! An innocent biker fell into a deep pothole on the road, got stuck, lay there all night, and died. The BJP government in Delhi has learned nothing from the Noida incident. They just keep lying every day. Janakpuri District Center, Delhi."
Kamal last spoke to his twin brother, Karan, around midnight, telling him he would be home within minutes. But when Kamal failed to return even after half an hour, anxiety gripped the family.
“We called Kamal at least ten times, but his phone went unanswered,” said his childhood friend Mayank. “Growing increasingly worried, we began searching for him and rushed to the local police station to report him missing.”
According to the family, the police declined to register a missing person complaint, citing the rule that 24 hours must pass before such a case can be filed.
“We requested the police to trace his mobile phone before it was switched off,” Mayank said. “They briefly shared the location but deleted the message before we could even open it, citing confidentiality. All they told us was that the phone was within a 200-metre radius.”
The police later deployed two personnel to assist the family and friends in searching for Kamal in a nearby park. However, they allegedly asked them to return at 11 am on Friday to formally lodge the complaint.
