New Delhi: Commuters on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line faced delays on Tuesday after a technical issue disrupted train movement between Anand Vihar and Vaishali metro stations.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) informed passengers about the disruption through a post on X, stating that train services on the Blue Line were delayed due to a technical issue between Anand Vihar and Vaishali. DMRC also clarified that services on all other metro lines were running normally.
The disruption caused inconvenience to several passengers, particularly during the busy evening hours when many office-goers were returning home. Crowding was reported at some stations on the affected stretch as commuters waited for services to return to normal. Several passengers also took to social media to express frustration over the delay.
This is the second recent disruption reported on the Delhi Metro network. Earlier, on June 16, services on the Yellow Line were affected after a passenger was spotted on the tracks at Jor Bagh Metro Station. The incident impacted trains moving from Samaypur Badli towards Millennium City Centre Gurugram. DMRC had then issued an advisory informing passengers about the delay, while services on other lines remained unaffected.
Meanwhile, Delhi is preparing for a major expansion of its metro network under Metro Phase-V (B). The project aims to add nearly 97 km of new metro lines through seven corridors and 65 stations. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the plan during DMRC’s 32nd Foundation Day event.
The proposed expansion is estimated to cost around Rs 48,204.56 crore. Four priority corridors are expected to be completed by 2029. These include routes connecting Dhansa Bus Stand to Nangloi, Central Secretariat to Kishangarh, Samaypur Badli to Narela DDA Sports Complex, and Kirti Nagar to Palam.
Other planned corridors include Jor Bagh to Mithapur, Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase III, and Keshavpuram to Rohini Sector 34. The expansion is expected to improve connectivity across several parts of the national capital, especially in outer and south-east Delhi.
