New Delhi: Security arrangements were intensified across central Delhi on Monday as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) prepared for its proposed 'Chalo Sansad' march on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session. Amid the heightened security, access to several Delhi Metro station gates was restricted, affecting commuters heading towards the protest site.
The CJP claimed that entry and exit gates at Patel Chowk, Janpath and Rajiv Chowk Metro stations were closed on Monday morning. The outfit advised supporters and commuters to plan their travel accordingly before heading towards Jantar Mantar.
The restrictions came as thousands of protesters gathered in the area despite rain and heavy security deployment.
Delhi Police has deployed additional personnel across Parliament, Raisina Road and Jantar Mantar. Multi-layer barricading, Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams and riot control vehicles have been positioned to prevent any untoward incident ahead of the proposed march.
Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) remain in force across the New Delhi district.
While CJP leaders have maintained that the proposed march will remain peaceful, Delhi Police has said no permission has been granted for any procession towards Parliament. Authorities have appealed to the public to comply with security restrictions and avoid unauthorised gatherings.
With access restrictions in place at key metro stations and increased security checks across central Delhi, commuters are advised to verify metro access and traffic updates before travelling to the Parliament and Jantar Mantar areas.
