New Delhi: Heavy rain and thunderstorms swept across Delhi-NCR on Monday morning, October 12, raising concerns over traffic congestion and waterlogging in several areas. Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram also experienced a change in weather, with commuters facing the possibility of delays during the morning rush.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi in the early hours, warning of intense rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds. The alert was valid until 6 am, with wind speeds expected to reach 62–87 kmph.

Delhi-NCR Rain: Waterlogging and Traffic Concerns

The morning downpour led to water accumulation in parts of Delhi, including areas near Jhandewalan Temple in Karol Bagh. Heavy rainfall during peak commuting hours raised concerns about slow-moving traffic, reduced visibility and delays on busy roads.

Similar weather conditions across Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad could affect commuters travelling between the neighbouring cities and the national capital. Low-lying stretches and roads prone to waterlogging may take longer to clear following intense showers.

Motorists have been advised to remain cautious, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and check traffic updates before starting their journeys. Commuters should also avoid flooded roads wherever possible.

Delhi Weather Forecast: Will More Showers Return?

Despite the early-morning rainfall, the IMD forecast indicated that further rain was unlikely over Delhi during the following six days. Partly cloudy skies were expected, with daytime temperatures ranging between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius.

For October 13, the maximum temperature was forecast at 32–34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was expected to remain between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. Temperatures could rise slightly on October 14 before remaining broadly similar later in the week.

The sudden showers have brought a temporary change in conditions across the National Capital Region. However, traffic disruption and waterlogging remain key concerns for residents during and after heavy rainfall.

Residents are advised to follow official weather bulletins and local traffic advisories for the latest updates.
