New Delhi: Delhi Police personnel on Friday reached the residence of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke in the national capital and served him a notice barring him from holding the proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place.

The notice comes hours before the demonstration, scheduled for 5 pm at Central Park, where Dipke had urged supporters and members of the public to assemble with the national flag. The CJP has been demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Police Restrictions Ahead of Tiranga March

The proposed gathering has faced restrictions from the authorities. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has ordered Central Park to remain closed on October 16 and 17, citing administrative reasons.

Delhi Police has also cited prohibitory orders in Connaught Place and adjoining areas, advising people to stay away from the proposed march. Security arrangements have been strengthened, with barricades and additional personnel deployed to regulate movement and prevent any untoward incident.

Police have indicated that a limited group of people could be facilitated to wave the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location.

Dipke Says He Is Ready to Go to Jail

The notice follows Dipke’s remarks at a press conference late Thursday, where he alleged that police and Intelligence Bureau personnel were monitoring his movements and expressed apprehension that he could be detained ahead of the demonstration.

“If we have to go to jail to wave the Tiranga in this country, then we are ready for it,” he said, maintaining that the proposed march would be peaceful.

The CJP founder has defended the gathering as an exercise of citizens’ constitutional rights and questioned the restrictions imposed ahead of the protest.

Protest Follows Arrest of CJP Members

The march was announced following the detention and subsequent judicial custody of CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after a demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The outfit has linked its protest to the arrests and its demand for Kumar’s removal, alleging irregularities in the electoral roll revision process.

With the police notice now served on Dipke and restrictions in place around Central Park, the proposed demonstration faces a fresh hurdle. The authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as security arrangements remain heightened ahead of the scheduled protest.
