Delhi Rain: 12 Flights Diverted, Over 50 Delayed As Heavy Showers Hit IGI Airport

Heavy rain in Delhi-NCR disrupted flight operations at IGI Airport, with 12 flights diverted and more than 50 delayed. Airlines issued advisories for passengers.

New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were affected on Monday as heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions disrupted air traffic movement.

According to officials, more than 50 flights were delayed, while around 12 arrivals and departures were diverted due to the deteriorating weather conditions.

The disruptions affected both incoming and outgoing flights, with airport authorities working to restore normal operations as weather conditions improved.

Airlines Issue Weather Advisories

Several airlines alerted passengers about possible delays and changes in flight schedules due to heavy rain in Delhi-NCR. Air India advised passengers that adverse weather conditions could impact flight operations to and from Delhi.

IndiGo also issued an advisory, stating that bad weather had affected flight schedules and the airline was monitoring the situation closely.

SpiceJet informed passengers that departures, arrivals and connecting flights could be affected due to the weather. Akasa Air also cautioned travellers about possible disruptions across its network and requested passengers to remain patient.

IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts as heavy showers lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR. The weather department forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph in several areas, including South Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North Delhi and surrounding regions.

Some areas were expected to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Waterlogging and Traffic Jams Reported Across Delhi

The heavy downpour also affected normal life in the national capital, with several areas reporting waterlogging and traffic congestion.

Residents shared visuals of flooded roads and slow-moving traffic in different parts of Delhi-NCR. Gurugram also witnessed heavy water accumulation and traffic disruptions following intense rainfall.
