Delhi Rain Alert: 60 kmph Winds, Lightning And Heavy Showers… Is Your Area Safe?

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for all districts of Delhi, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. The alert was issued on Tuesday morning and remains valid for the next few hours.

According to the IMD forecast, Delhi may witness heavy rain exceeding 15 mm per hour along with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of around 60 kmph.

All Delhi districts under red warning

The red warning covers all 11 districts of the national capital, including Central Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi and West Delhi.

The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious as thunderstorms and lightning activities are expected during the warning period.

Orange alert issued for several states

Apart from Delhi, orange warnings have been issued for several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana and Uttarakhand.

In Uttar Pradesh, districts including Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Deoria, Chandauli and several others are under an orange warning for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and moderate rainfall.

Parts of Madhya Pradesh, including Gwalior, Datia, Rewa, Satna and Singrauli, have also been placed under an orange alert.

Kerala, Haryana and Uttarakhand districts are also expected to experience heavy weather activity, according to the IMD.

IMD issues safety advisory

The weather department has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions. Residents have been warned against taking shelter under trees or weak structures during thunderstorms.

People have also been advised to stay updated with weather alerts and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Heavy rain affects Delhi-NCR movement

The latest warning comes after heavy rainfall disrupted normal life in Delhi-NCR on Monday. Several areas witnessed waterlogging, causing traffic problems for commuters.

Rain-related disruptions also affected flight operations at Delhi airport, with weather conditions impacting movement across the region.

The IMD has advised residents to remain alert as unstable weather conditions continue in Delhi and several neighbouring states.
