New Delhi: The weather in the national capital is set to remain unpredictable during Janmashtami as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall in Delhi on Friday and Saturday.
Light showers were reported in several parts of Delhi on Thursday, providing temporary relief from humid and hot conditions. According to the weather department, cloudy skies and intermittent rain are likely to continue during the festive period.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for both Friday and Saturday, predicting light to moderate rainfall in several areas of Delhi.
On Friday, very light to light rain is expected from morning till afternoon in many parts of the city. Some locations may witness moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Rain activity may continue during the night as well, with chances of light showers and thunderstorms in isolated areas.
The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum temperature may stay between 25°C and 27°C.
Delhi witnessed rainfall in multiple areas on Thursday. In the 24-hour period till 8:30 am, Aya Nagar recorded the highest rainfall of 3.9 mm, followed by Palam at 3.1 mm and Lodhi Road at 0.8 mm.
However, no rainfall was recorded at Ridge and Safdarjung stations.
Despite the showers, temperatures remained relatively high. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27°C, which was 1.4 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 34.9°C.
The weather department said south-easterly winds may blow at a speed of 10 to 15 kmph during the day. Humidity levels remained high, with the minimum humidity recorded at 65% and maximum at 90% in the last 24 hours.
With rain expected during Janmashtami celebrations, people visiting temples and religious places have been advised to remain cautious. Weather conditions are likely to remain unstable over the next two days, with chances of thunderstorms and rainfall in parts of the capital.
